BRIEF OVERVIEW OF PGCB

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) was created under the restructuring process of Power Sector in Bangladesh with the objective of bringing about commercial environment including increase in efficiency, establishment of accountability and dynamism in accomplishing its functions. PGCB was incorporated in November 1996 with an authorized capital of Tk.10 billion. It was entrusted with the responsibility to own the national power grid and to operate and expand the same with efficiency. Pursuant to Government decision to transfer of transmission assets to PGCB from Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), former DESA, PGCB has completed taking over of all the transmission assets on 30.12.2002 and operating them.

Power grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) assigned joint venture of ABB Limited, India and Energypac Engineering Ltd., Bangladesh to design, supply, install 132/33 kV substations at Megnaghat and Munshiganj and extension of existing 132/33 kV substations at Madanganj and Hasnabad on turnkey basis. The project will be financed by JICA and government of Bangladesh . A contract was sign between PGCB and the Joint venture on 21 December 2009 for Euro 9,835,559.54 plus BDT 236,410,993.68 for the work. Mr. Md. Ashraf Hossain, Company Secretary of PGCB and Mr. B. V. Sridhar, Vice President of ABB Ltd. in presence of high officials of both signed the contract at a simple ceremony on behalf of their organizations concerned. The work is scheduled to be completed by 21 months from the effective date.

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd. (PGCB) assigned M/S. CCC-Etern Joint Venture, China to design, supply, erection, testing & commission of 132 kV underground transmission line from Old Airport to Dhaka Cantonment on turnkey basis. The contract No. PGCB/SPSDP/TL/4/Lot-2 was signed on 15 November 2009 between PGCB and M/S. CCC-Etern Joint Venture, China for US $ 8,417,177.30 plus Tk. 84,599,433.56 for the work. Mr. Md. Ashraf Hossain, Company Secretary of PGCB and Mr. Hua Jie, Project Manager of CCC in Bangladesh signed the contract on behalf of their organizations. The work will be completed by 15 months from effective date.
